SIHA Network Marks International Migration Day

The SIHA Network organized the refugee day commemoration and launched a book for local organizations to support migrants returning.

Hargeisa (The Horn)-During the launching of (SIHA booklet) playbook for organizations, dealing with individuals in need of resettlement and rehabilitation to those illegal immigrants faced by the injustices saw the attendance of the office of Solicitor General, National Human Rights commission, civil societies, and organizations dealing illegal immigration, universities students and members of the public.

Mr. Yusuf Ahmed speaking on behalf of SIHA NETWORK said, “As we mark the international immigrant’s day, it said more and more persons emigrate from place to place in search for green pastures, and this numbers increase by each passing year, The United Nations articulates 272 million more than 50 million in the last decade. Somaliland is one of the places where trafficking is common and a place whereby many people are at risk of falling to prey to human traffickers and fall victim to most vulnerable situations, and who need most to be rehabilitated and settled into the society.

Mr. Yusuf Ahmed added thus, why we are in the process of creating a guidebook for organizations and agencies providing services to victims of human trafficking whose purpose is to improve care and protect their rights.

Mr. Muse, one of the contributors s of the SIHA playbook speaking during the occasion said, “The contents of this book aims to equip those organizations and groups dealing with persons affected by the effects of illegal immigration, thence the purpose of these book is meant trying to support those returning and resettling , thus why SIHA has provided this book with support to develop it, and its origins are from the countries where SIHA operates

Ms. Raqiya Ibrahim, representative of Somaliland human rights commission speaking at the occasion said, “A country with borders , we are then a transit point and always prone to cross border migration to and from one country to the other, and since we share borders with other countries

Deputy Solicitor General Hussein Mahmoud Jama on his part said that the government is in the process of drafting the illegal immigration law said, “The 18th day of this world coincided with the day when immigrants, citizens and the illegal immigrants were treated equally. Illegal immigrants are not confined to Africa, Europe and America. I inform you that the authorities have compiled the immigration law approved by the cabinet this month. The refugee laws and policies law are currently been formulated.

Mr. Nurudin Mohamed, SIHA country representative said, “We gather here today, to deliberate and reach an accord and commemorate the International Migrants Day, the secondly is to review our book, and thirdly we have to exchange views on the situation faced by migrants. We are experiencing the effects of the migration crisis.

He added, “We have formed two organization one by the name of  Daljire and comprising of 40 female members who have experienced and equipped with the key aspects of a human rights-based approach to migration meant to ensure that gender issues are placed at the heart of policies – so that gender equality is promoted and all the standards, policies and practices that are developed fully take into account the particular situation of migrant women and girls.”
