Tearfund Deutschland e.V. (TFDE) is a non-profit association for development cooperation and development-oriented emergency aid with its headquarters in Berlin. The focus is on countries in the Near and Middle East, with additional partnerships through the Tearfund family in over 50 countries. TFDE currently employs 90 staff members, seven of whom work at the Berlin office. The TFDE Somaliland program is managed by a team of experienced local and three expat staff from TFDE’s office in Hargeisa.
TFDE has been operational in the targeted communities of the Salahley district since 2009 with programs focusing on resilience, development, community health, WASH, and livelihood diversification activities through a community participatory approach. Projects include the reconstruction of water catchments (cisterns), producing animal fodder, establishing farmer
field schools and greenhouses for the supply of fresh and nutritious vegetables. In 2016-18
TFDE provided emergency relief to the drought affected population in Salahley and
Baligubadle Districts with components that included nutrition monitoring targeting mothers and
children under the age of five.
