Position: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Reporting to: The Board of Directors (BoDs)
Location: Hargeisa, Somaliland
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Executive Officer to join our growing company. As a CEO, you will be responsible for the supervision of the overall business strategy and success. The CEO leads a group of top executives, or “top management,” including but not limited to the chief financial officer, chief operations officer, and chief technical officer.
Company Profile: Sompower is the largest electricity producer in Somaliland with generation and distribution facilities spanning from the capital city of Hargeisa to the western regions. For the last decade, Sompower has slowly evolved from more than 39 small utility companies that used to operate Hargeisa’s electricity since early 90s. With this unique background, Sompower envisions to continue to shape the electricity industry of the country for the better of the country’s businesses, investment landscape and for all citizens by modernizing its facilities and way of conducting business in Somaliland
Job Summary:
The Chief Executive Officer, creates and communicates the organization’s vision and mission and leads strategy development, implementation, and revision. The CEO also oversees development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, helping formulate strategic objectives. To that end, the CEO must maintain an awareness of both the external and internal competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments and standards, and so forth.
Roles and Responsibilities of the CEO include to:
- Develop the Company’s vision and mission statements, ensure that such statements are communicated to and understood by all employees, review the vision and mission statements, and ensure that changes are made to each, as needed
- Develop business plans for power generation,transmission, distribution, ancillary services, fuel systems and alternative sources of energy
- Oversee the complete operation of Sompower in accordance with the direction established in the strategic plans
- Implement approved infrastructure and business plans
- Have the ability to translate, develop and establish goals compatible with general courses of direction set by the Board of Directors
- Implement appropriate initiatives to improve technical, safety and environmental performance and document compliance
- Make sure that the power plants and power stations are operated to maximum capacity
- Actively participate in the financial management process
- Ensure that the technical risks are managed in accordance with good operating practice.
- Ensure the achievement of key performance targets as set out in budgets or forecasts.
- Ensure planning, budgeting and execution of major maintenance.
- Ensure financial activities are managed within agreed budgets and informing the board in a timely manner should the CEO become aware of any material adverse movements to the budget
- Ensure effective and efficient functioning of the organisation and all its operating divisions
- Oversee investigations into reporting errors, preparing and submitting all financial restatements as required by law and by company policy, and prepares press releases about restatements.
- Review and approves the Risk Management Plan, as well as financial forecasts and forecasted financial statements.
- Keep the Board fully informed on the end results of the operations and carry out approved policies, plans and projects.
- Perform any other tasks required from time to time to manage the company.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, statistics, economics or other fields of study appropriate to the electrical utility industry from a reputable University. Advanced degree preferred. Additional advanced training in relating to utility management is highly desirable.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in management in the electric utility industry, including at least five years senior management experience is preferred
- The CEO must have a proven record of career success including the planning, development and implementation of business plans.
- The CEO should understand generation, transmission and distribution of electric power to the extent necessary to initiate, direct, and review various activities including infrastructure development, system regulation, maintenance and operation, financial management, and business development
- The candidate should have substantial experience in the areas of organizational management, board relations, government relations, human resource management, finance and marketing.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional time management and ability to problem solve under pressure
